McMasters Koss Company History
McMasters Koss was built on a foundation of strong family values, and that spirit continues to shape everything we do. Over the years, many members of the founding families have played a part in our success, and it shows in the loyalty of our team—most of whom have been with us for 15 years or more.
Our journey began with the purchase of our first building in 1982, followed by a major milestone in 2000 with the implementation of the QS9000 Quality System. Since then, we’ve grown steadily, expanding into a four-building campus with over 50,000 square feet dedicated to inventory, laboratory, and inspection capabilities.
In 2018, we proudly surpassed $21 million in sales—a reflection of the trust our customers place in us. Today, with continued investment in people, technology, and infrastructure, we’re focused on leading the way in the automotive and heavy-duty truck sealing industry—while staying true to the values that got us here.
McMasters Koss Company was started by industry veterans, Robert (Bob) McMasters and Martin (Marty) Koss in the Detroit Metro area in 1977 to distribute O-Rings and seals to automotive manufacturers.
Since then we have continued to provide IATF 16949 and ISO 9001:2015 registered manufacturing and stocking distribution of O-Rings, Gaskets, Custom Molded Seals and Oil Seals.
Our dedication to excellent quality and meeting on time requirements established McMasters Koss Company as a trusted supplier to large manufacturers in North America and worldwide.
McMasters Koss supplies O-Rings and seals to a wide variety of industries and major OEM manufacturers for automotive, truck, food and beverage, petroleum and other important industries.
In 2000 McMasters Koss Company implemented a formal quality system and completed our ISO 9001:2015 Quality System certification in 2016.
McMasters Koss employees are generally long term with average tenure of over 15 years. Team members know how to quickly address your needs and accomplish objectives.

Robert (Bob) McMasters
Founder
University of Michigan - Bachelor of Business Adminstration 1959
Bob worked with Allis Chalmers, Parker Seal and rubber seal distributors in the Detroit Metropolitan area before starting the company in 1977.
Bob was President of the Red Run Golf Club, Golf Association of Michigan and Western Golf Association on his spare time culminating a long professional and personal devotion to the golfing industry and sport.
Martin (Marty) Koss
Founder
Michigan State University - Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering 1965
Marty was a civil corps officer in the U.S. Navy Corps of Engineering at the Seebees base in Virginia
Marty worked for Standard Oil and seal distributors in the Detroit Metropolitan area before starting the McMasters Koss partnership.
